Judith Milner
Biography
Judith Milner is a representational oil painter based in Auckland. Her work engages with notions of nostalgia, depicting familiar New Zealand scenes in a fresh and intimate way. She is drawn to imagery that not only reminds her of her own childhood, but hints at a broader narrative beyond the frame.
New Zealand architecture is a frequent muse: using traditional techniques, She renders the details and proportions of our historic buildings with precision, paying homage to their craftsmanship. While this classes her work as realist, it is the place's feeling that Milner seeks to capture.
Despite loving art since childhood and studying it throughout high school, Judith was a lawyer for 13 years before turning to a career in Art. "I see my paintings as a fusion of my analytical and intuitive sides."
Her work is held in collections throughout New Zealand and overseas, and Judith has been a finalist in several national art awards and in 2021 was the recipient of the Michael Evans Figurative Award at the Walker & Hall Art Awards and People’s Choice Award winner in 2023.
