New on the wall - and two on the way ...

This month at The Artist's Room Gallery - we are thrilled to bring you a suite of beautiful new oil paintings by established Dunedin artist - JOHN TOOMER.  (please note there is no opening for this show)

John Toomer is a well-established Otago artist who has been painting professionally for over 30 years. Painting primarily in oil, John's work depicts scenes of Otago and the surrounding Southern Regions. His style, described as 'contemporary realism', showcases old, dilapidated buildings such as homesteads, country stores, churches, and railway stations. Through his paintings, John provides a glimpse into the beauty and history of this part of New Zealand.

Toomer is widely recognised for the exceptional level of detail and meticulous rendering in his work. His pieces feature a dramatic interplay of stark settings and serene moods, intensified by his expressive handling of light and shadow. He has built a reputation as one of New Zealand's premier artists of old buildings, landscapes, and dark and stormy skies. Through his techniques, he elevates unassuming rural scenes and structures to iconic status.

John is a self-taught artist who has dedicated many years to perfecting his fine art. He has held fifteen highly successful solo exhibitions, seven of which were sellouts. He has also participated in a number of Invited Artist Exhibitions around the country, winning numerous awards for his artwork garnering People's Choice awards no less than 14 times. His work is included in many private and corporate collections in New Zealand and internationally.
